The lacecap is a Hydrangea with crown-shaped flowers. What a beautiful inflorescence this Hydrangea has, doesn't it? This Hydrangea blooms from June to September and is easy to care for. This plant is a wonderful addition to your garden or terrace. This Hydrangea is available in four beautiful colors: blue, pink, white and red.

Care

Watering

Daily watering is recommended. Only the soil should be kept moist; avoid getting the flowers wet. This can cause burns if the wet flowers are exposed to the sun. A plant with 'dry feet' will have the most attractive flowers.

Soil type and fertilisation

It is best to plant Hy-pe hydrangeas in a special potting mix for hydrangeas. Your local garden centre is sure to have this special soil mix in stock. This plant flowers abundantly, therefore good fertilisation is very important. Do this in spring and autumn.
The blue flower is originally pink. The acidity of the soil gradually turns the plant blue. The less lime and phosphate present in the soil, the bluer the flower. Special fertilisers for hydrangea influence the colour.
Fertilisation is not necessary during the first year.

Pruning

March is the best month for pruning hydrangeas in the garden. Allow the blooms to remain on the plant during the winter and autumn. These blooms protect the plant against frost. Remove the dead heads from the branches in March. If you prune some of the old branches right back to the ground the bush can rejuvenate. Would you prefer the plant to be smaller? Then you should clip off half of the branches one year and the other half the next year. However, the pruned stalks will not bear flowers in the same year.

Temperature

The ideal temperature is between 15 and 25 Celsius.

Frost resistance

Is the plant still in the seed pot? Don't set your hydrangea outside in the frost. Older plants growing outdoors can survive temperatures as low as minus 15oC. Give the plant extra protection against night frost in late spring to prevent the buds from freezing.

Sun

A partially shaded sunny spot for the most attractive plant. Never plant white hydrangeas in full sun; the leaves will turn brown.
